Recommendations:
DIGITAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT:
We move all digital media that we wish to keep archived to a trusted hosting source.
This means relocating links from youtube videos to archive.org, youtube is not a trustworthy place to keep fandom histroy
Locate scanned copies of zines, comics, conbooks, and the like to archive.org.
this also includes other media as well, such as interviews, photographs, art originals, &c.
Each member also retains their digital copies, but makes sure that the linked versions of various media objects remain on archive.org, or optionally that there is a linked backup version also listed.
PHISICAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT:
Once digitized the vast majority of phsical originals should be transferred to a respectabe library, archive, or institutional collection.
We need to generate a list of potential conadidates. We are still at the early end of institutions developing an interest in furry media, we can take advantage of this and make sure that we control where and how the collections form. Materials are signifigantly safer in this collections than in member collections. These colelctions will most likely be at university collections.
A seconday option is to make consortium run archive to host originals. This would be expensive and difficult as there are more resources required to form a new archive form scratch than would be needed for adding collections to an existing archive.
Set minimum standards for the digitization process. How high quality in terms of DPI, bitrate, file size, and quality are we going to recommend? Can we set minimal standards for the digitization?
Reguardless where phisical media is stored, digitized copies should exist, and should be hosted on archive.org at minimum.
